IAA accepting nominations, expands authors awards
The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation has opened nominations for their eighth annual Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award (IAA), honoring current Hoosier authors who have made a mark on the literary landscape.
This year, they are introducing a rotating fourth category that highlights genre authors (the 2016 category is Children’s Picture Book authors).
Nominations are now open and four winners will be selected, each receiving a cash prize, plus a $2,500 grant for their hometown Indiana public library.

The Artist’s Torah: The Roots of the Artist in the Tree of Knowledge Workshop
Beth-El Zedeck will be hosting award-winning author David Ebenbach on the weekend of March 12 & 13. He’ll be conducting a workshop on Sunday morning titled “The Artist’s Torah: The Roots of the Artist in the Tree of Knowledge.” The workshop is free and open to everyone.

We invite poets everywhere to submit an original poem inspired by the 100th running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” The contest revives a tradition from the 1920s, when a poem was included in the race day program. The poet who captures the checkered flag will receive a cash prize of $1,000, two tickets to the big race, the opportunity to read the poem at the track at some point during the month of May, and will have his or her work featured in the official 2016 program. A second-place prize of $500 will also be awarded.
The contest is an initiative of the Arts, Culture & Youth Committee of the 100th Running Host Committee. The purpose of the Arts, Culture & Youth Committee is to create cultural connections between the race and the community, promoting conversation and education around the 100th running. Submissions are due Monday, March 21, 2016.

NAMI Call for Poets- Through an Open Window the Light Shines
An Art and Poetry Exhibit by The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Delaware County (NAMI), in partnership with Minnetrista. 
We are calling on all poets to become involved and donate their talents and creativity to aid in this endeavor to bring the Delaware County community together to become more aware of the impact of mental illness. Through an Open Window, the Light Shines is fundraiser and an arts exhibition which seeks poets who can capture through their poems the struggle with the pain of mental illness as well as the subsequent breakthrough into mental health. NAMI believes that poetry uniquely can reach and educate people about mental illness by providing a window into the very soul of human beings in ways that information and facts cannot. It can open the curtains and let the light shine through. It can sweep away stigma and replace it with fresh air, light and understanding.
Entries for this juried exhibition are due April 18, 2016.

The Butler Bridge Program
We are pleased to offer the Butler Bridge Program to students in grades 3–12. The program draws on Butler’s remarkable resources to build a bridge between Butler and its community, as well as between students who aspire to higher education and the professors, professional writers, teachers, and college mentors who are eager to share what they know.
Our Vision: Butler Bridge programs combine learning, laughter, and compassion to inspire young writers and readers. The programs connect bright, young people with talented mentors and like-minded peers to nurture intellectual and artistic discovery.
This learning-rich community rejects a narrow version of education, in which, too often, assessment structures learning. We reach for a goal that is harder to define: enhancing creativity, developing the imagination, finding our own voices. We help our students and campers be so engaged with the joys of the literary arts that they don’t even notice how much they are learning.

Odyssey Writing Workshop
June 6 through July 15, 2016
Since its inception in 1996, the Odyssey Writing Workshop has become one of the most highly respected workshops for writers of fantasy, science fiction, and horror in the world. Top authors, editors and agents have served as guests at Odyssey, and 59% of graduates have gone on to be professionally published. The workshop, held annually on the campus of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, runs for six weeks, and combines an intensive, advanced curriculum with in-depth feedback on students’ manuscripts. College credit is available upon request.

The Juniper Institute for Young Writers is an extraordinary nine-day creative writing program for students who are finishing their sophomore, junior, or senior years of high school. Hosted by the University of Massachusetts MFA Program for Poets and Writers, the Institute offers participants a unique opportunity to participate in intensive creative writing workshops, craft sessions, and studio courses designed especially for young writers.
