This class is designed to help authors navigate the self-publishing world and learn the ins and outs/pro and cons of being an Independent Author!

Self-publishing can be one of the most exciting things an author can do with their work, but it can also be one of the most frustrating. Knowing the basics of what’s required and expected, can ease the amount of frustration, and increase the amount of excitement for authors new to Self-publishing.

The most important thing to understand about self-publishing is that you will wear all the hats and you are the boss! And, with those designations, comes great responsibility and even greater reward!

This course will cover what essential steps are necessary to make the transition from a completed manuscript or nonfiction book idea to book publication.

  • What’s the difference between a first draft and a submission ready manuscript?
  • Writing the First Draft
  • Preparing a Final Manuscript for Publication
  • Printed vs Digital Editions
  • Marketing: Making contacts, book community, social media, ads, and more

This is an introductory course.

 

 

About the instructor:

John F. Allen is an American writer born in Indianapolis, IN. He is a founding member of the Speculative Fiction Guild and a member of the Indiana Writers Center. John began writing stories as early as the second grade and pursued various forms of writing at some point, throughout his career. He studied Liberal Arts at IUPUI with a focus in Creative Writing, received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force and is a current member of the American Legion. John’s debut novel, The God Killers, was published in 2013 by Seventh Star Press, and he has since had numerous novellas and short stories published by various publishers. He is currently working on multiple novel, novella and short story projects, as well as a book of poetry. John is also a freelance copywriter. John currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
