Join us at the Indiana State Library when Indiana’s best established and emerging writers will meet for a full day of classes on the writing craft for the  2024 Gathering of Writers Annual Writing Conference, presented by the Indiana Writers Center and the Indiana Center for the Book.

Featuring a keynote address and a poetry breakout session from Indiana Poet Laureate, Curtis Crisler. Other breakout sessions include poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, social media for writers and more presented by Barbara Shoup, Jill Christman, Jackie Rodriguez, Natalie Solmer, Sarah Layden, Manòn Voice, and Terry Kirts. You’ll leave full of inspiration, armed with writing drafts ripe for experimentation—along with a hundred other writers who feel the same way.

Registration opens at 8:30 am. Keynote address starts at 9:00 am. Event ends at 4:15 pm. Full schedule available soon.

REGISTRATION POLICY
Advanced registration is required. No walk-ins. Refunds in the form of class credit will be issued if notice is given 7 days or less before the event.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Please email edu@indianawriters.org to inquire about scholarships. Applications close Sunday, September 15.

STUDENTS
Students in grades 9-12, university, and grad school are eligible for an additional discount on registration with a teacher recommendation. Email sarah@indianawriters.org for more information.

PARKING
We are excited to be able to offer free parking for our event this year. You can park for free at the State Government Garage with entrances on New York Street and Senate Avenue, or in the flat parking lot located at New York Street and Capitol Avenue.

Course Instructor: Tina Tocco

Tina Tocco is a Pushcart Prize nominee. As a writer for both children and adults, her work has appeared in kiddie magazines, such as Highlights, Cricket, Humpty Dumpty, AppleSeeds, and Odyssey, and in literary journals, including New Ohio Review, River Styx, Crab Creek Review, Passages North, Potomac Review, Portland Review, Sou’wester, and Italian Americana. Tina’s writing has also been featured in Wild Things: The Best of Italian Americana (Fordham University Press, 2008), The Best Small Fictions 2019 (Sonder Press, 2019), Best Nonfiction Food (Woodhall Press, 2020), and other anthologies. A runner-up for the SCBWI’s Work-in-Progress Grant, Tina was also an honorable mention in the River Styx Schlafly Beer Micro-Brew Micro-Fiction Contest and a finalist in CALYX’s Flash Fiction Contest. Her interview on flash and the craft of writing, “No Wasted Words,” appears in Roanoke Review. In 2021, she was a reader-in-residence for flash fiction journal SmokeLong Quarterly. Tina earned her MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College, where she was editor-in-chief of Inkwell. She has taught adults and kids for Hugo House, GrubStreet, Hudson Valley Writers Center, Arts Escape, Kids Short Story Connection, the SCBWI, and other organizations.
